Can Passports Be Notarized?

CAN CA NOTARIES NOTARIZE A PASSPORT?

California Notaries get asked quite often if passports or pictures can be notarized. The purpose of a California Notary is to verify that the documents are filled completely and that the signer is the person signing the document. We verify this by using a valid picture id such as a birth certificate or driver’s license. Therefore, to actually notarize a form of id does not make sense because California notaries cannot notarize the capacity of the signer, and by providing a passport or driver’s license to be notarized, says that we are verifying a picture and not a signature.

However, we can notarize a signed statement by the client that says that a copy of a passport or driver’s license is the true and correct copy of his or her’s driver’s license or passport.

So, next time you need a signature notarized and not a picture, call Steve the San Diego Mobile Notary for all your notarization needs! 619-904-4510
